What happens when you reach out?

1
You tell me what happened.
In your own words, on your own time — call, text, or send a note. However you get in touch, there's a real person on the other end.
-
2
We talk it through.
An honest, plain-English conversation about what happened and whether I'm the right person to help.
-
3
You decide what's next.
No pressure. After we talk, moving forward is your decision. And if it's not something I handle, I'll tell you honestly — and help you understand the kind of lawyer you're looking for.
The first call is always free.
Every situation is different — and so is what it costs.
So we start with a conversation, and that first call is always free.
Injury, storm & consumer claims
I usually work on contingency — I don't get paid unless we win.*
Business, transactional & other matters
I work hourly, with a clear written fee arrangement agreed before any work begins — so you always know what you're paying for.
Either way, finding out is free.
* Case costs and expenses are separate and may apply — I'll go over what to expect before you decide.
Practice Areas
Car & Motor Vehicle Accidents
Hurt in a crash — car, truck, motorcycle, or a rideshare like Uber or Lyft? When someone else's negligence upends your life, I pursue the full compensation you're owed.
Personal Injury
Injured by someone's carelessness — a slip and fall, an unsafe property, or another serious accident? If a person or business caused your injury, you may have a claim.
Negligent Security
Attacked or injured because a property wasn't kept reasonably safe? When a business or landlord ignores an obvious risk, they can be held responsible for the harm that follows.
Storm & Property Claims
After a storm or disaster, is your own insurer delaying, underpaying, or denying your claim? With more than 1,000 first-party property insurance claims behind me, I know the tactics carriers use — and I push hard to hold them to the coverage you paid for.
Consumer Protection & Product Defects
Misled into a purchase, or hurt by a product that should have been safe? When companies cut corners, I pursue accountability — for you individually and, where it fits, for everyone harmed.
Privacy, Data & Technology
Did a company take your face, fingerprints, or data without asking — or harm you through an app or platform? I bring claims, including under privacy laws protecting biometric privacy, video privacy, online privacy, and more.
The first biometric-privacy
class action against TikTok.
I identified and initiated the first class action against TikTok for violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) — the law that says a company can't collect your biometric identifiers, like faceprints, without your consent. I saw the suspected violations, researched them, drafted the first complaint, and put together a team to pursue it.
After a wave of similar cases followed, the matter was consolidated in an MDL and resulted in a $92 million settlement.
Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome; every case is different.

Casey C. DeReus
Founder & Principal Attorney
Casey C. DeReus is based out of Jefferson, Louisiana. Clients and attorneys come to Casey for help on complicated legal matters and for her writing skills.
Casey moved to New Orleans in 2010 and fell in love with the city. She attended graduate school at Tulane University where she earned her M.A. in French Studies and met her husband. Later, Casey attended law school at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law where she served as Managing Print Editor on the Loyola Law Review and graduated magna cum laude.
Casey got her start as a disaster lawyer—including handling more than 1,000 first-party property insurance claims for policyholders. She also has an extensive background and experience in personal injury, including motor vehicle crash cases (especially those involving ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft), negligent security cases (especially involving third-party criminal actors), and matters involving intensive briefing and litigation.
Casey developed a passion for complex litigation work after identifying and initiating the first class action against TikTok for BIPA violations—a case that resulted in a $92 million settlement. Casey’s current class action practice focuses on consumer protection (including product defects), privacy law, and social media and technology law, among other things.
Casey is actively engaged in the legal community. She is the founder of Louisiana Lady Lawyers Group, a monthly meetup of New Orleans attorneys. She has also served as a Board Member for the Federal Bar Association–New Orleans Chapter (2021–2025) and a Member of the Committee on the Profession for the Louisiana State Bar Association (2022–2026). She has also served in various other roles with the American Bar Association, including as a Team Member for the ABA YLD Disaster Legal Services Team (2018–2021) and Vice Chair of the ABA YLD Solo, Small Firm, and General Practice Committee (2019–2020).
She speaks French and can accommodate Francophone clients.
